“Saturday, June 13, marked the night for the popular YOU Spectacular awards at Emporers Palace, Johannesburg.
Local celebrities put their best foot forward in fashion forward designs and the red carpet was flooded by more daring and edgy looks that mirrored the infamous New York MET Ball 2015.
The tone of the evening was quickly set by quirky and hilarious comedian, Anne Hirsch who undoubtedly maintained humour throughout the ceremony as the host. The setting was a rather relaxed one with the stage masked out in the form of a living room. This clearly contributed to the playful, cheeky freedom that many of the award recipients showcased, one of them was two-time YOU Spectacular winner, Johnathan Boyton-Lee who playfully flirted and sat on Anne Hirsch’s lap during his acceptance speech.
Entertainment groups seemed to have blossomed throughout the night starting off with a special cover version of Hallelujah by Louise Carver, Sannie Fox and ChianoSky
and a Motown inspired doowop medley by girl group Shoowop Shop, made up of Tamara Dey, Melissa Allison and Mariechan Luiters.
Internationally popular Afro/Hip hop artist Spoek Mathambo’s kept the stage alive before ending off the evening with the country’s three favourite swing music lads, Loyiso Bala, Graeme Watkins and Nathan Ro, who wowed the audience with their rendition of Me and My Shadow and a stunning Disney medley.
